It’s August 21, Do You Know Who Your Starting Quarterback Is?

The Florida Gators don’t. Or if they do, they’re not telling us.

Speculation has reached new levels as everyone eagerly awaits the announcement of the starting quarterback. For years, it has been a clean handoff. From Chris Leak to Tim Tebow to John Brantley, it was obvious (painfully at times) who the next starter would be. That appeared to be the case when Jeff Driskel originally committed to Florida; one day the job would be his. Then Jacoby Brissett committed as well, opening up a flood of questions for when the time came.

That time has come and, if you’re like me and subscribe to far too many Google Alerts, your inbox is full with speculation. Until Will Muschamp announces his choice (or Brent Pease’s choice, depending on what you want to believe) we’ll have to answer the question ourselves.

So who’s your guy? Which one do you want to see take the first snap? The majority of snaps? Who you got?

Who do you have starting at QB for the Gators?

Muschamp is turning out to be bust champ.

I have liked Driskel from day 1. If what is being said by players is true, they are both equal everywhere but scrambling, which Driskel is the superior. I’m not seeing why its a difficult choice.

    • Very hard to really determine anything from last year since they were both thrust into rough situations, but what stood out to me about Brissett was his composure. Not saying he played great, neither did Driskel, but Brissett looked like the more confident of the two.

Also have to remember that Driskel was an Urban guy while Brissett was really brought in by Muschamp (well, Weis…but Muschamp as well).

      • That said, I’ll give the canned statement about it all…

…I want the guy that gives us the best chance to win whoever that may be.

I wholly agree with you and I would hope every Gator would as well.

That being said… I though JD looked pretty good against Bama until he was injured. I also remember watching the UA all star game and thinking JD was going to be ridiculous. I just don’t remember thinking Brissett would be any special at any time. If hes the starter, no one will pull harder for him to prove me wrong than me.

          • I think we’re on the same page. I’m leaning Brissett, but would love either to do well. I don’t really have a definite “horse in the race” because overall I just want good play from the position.

Admittedly my small bias comes from the precollege hype. After watching CFB for as long as I have, you’d think I’d know better than to put any stock in HS performance but for some reason with JD I have a hard time looking by it. I guess we will know for sure in a few days.
