Florida Falls From Top Spot; Gators Drop To No. 7 In Baseball America Top 25

The preseason No. 1 is no longer the regular season No. 1. For the first time during the 2012 season, the Florida Gators are not No. 1 in the Baseball America Top 25. After going 1-3 last week, the Gators fell to No. 7 in the poll. To make matters worse, Florida’s chief rival and next opponent – the Florida State Seminoles – took over the top spot.

Since defeating the Seminoles 4-1 on March 27, the Gators have headed in the wrong direction. Florida has gone 2-5 in their seven games since and has fallen to 25-7 on the season. Florida State, on the other hand, has gone 6-1 since that game and head into Tuesday night’s matchup with a serious amount of momentum. This will be the last of three games during the regular season between the two state schools. The Gators currently lead the series 2-0.

The rest of the top 25 was shaken up as well. Future SEC program Texas A&M and current SEC program Kentucky took the No. 2 and No. 3 rankings after both teams rose five spots. After winning it’s series over the Gators, the LSU Tigers rose from No. 12 to No. 5. Also representing the Southeastern Conference is South Carolina at No. 10, Arkansas at No. 11 and Ole Miss at No. 18. Auburn fell out of the top 25 from No. 23.
