2013 Football Recruiting: Florida Gators Lose Demarcus Robinson; WR Back To Clemson

Demarcus Robinson has gone back to where he came from. The talented wide receiver’s commitment to the Florida Gators was short-lived, as Robinson found his way back to Clemson on Monday.

Robinson was initially committed to the Tigers, but an upcoming visit to Gainesville set various rumors on their course. Before he even made the visit, Robinson met with Gators’ coaches and decided Florida was the place for him. Not even a week later, he no longer believes that is the case. Robinson is back with Clemson.

With Robinson, the Gators were happy with their wide receiver class. He joined Ahmad Fulwood, Alvin Bailey, Chris Thompson and Marqui Hawkins. Without him, Florida is still pleased, but true joy may have come in sheer numbers at the position. Don’t be surprised if the Gators continue to look for a wide receiver to add to the class. And don’t be surprised if Robinson isn’t entirely done with his recruitment yet.

2013 Football Recruiting: WR Demarcus Robinson Flips To Florida Gators

The recruiting train hasn’t stopped for the Florida Gators. On Wednesday, four-star wide receiver Demarcus Robinson flipped his commitment from Clemson to Florida and instantly became one of the most important members of the 2013 recruiting class. With reports that Robinson may visit Gainesville as early as this upcoming weekend, a commitment–if coming–wasn’t expected until after that time. Robinson surprised many by making that commitment after Gators’ coaches visited him at his home.

Demarcus Robinson - Florida Gators

The 6’1.5″, 196-pound Robinson comes to the Gators from Fort Valley, GA (Peach County) and joins an already impressive wide receiver class. He joins Ahmad Fulwood, Alvin Bailey, Chris Thompson and Marqui Hawkins to give Florida five commits at the position. That number means the Gators are most likely done at WR, but have added great depth to a unit they’re looking to redefine.

Robinson’s flip from Clemson is also a satisfying one. Those of us living in the state of Florida who also complete the ideal double of being Gators’ fans have tired of Clemson over the years. There have been recruits that appeared destined for Florida. Ones that fit systems perfectly and could get immediate playing time. They excited us as prospects and Florida seemed in great position to get many of them. Then something happened and they headed to Clemson. Many had good careers and that made us feel worse. While Robinson is from the state of Georgia, his switch is still immensely satisfying. We like. We like very much.

247Sports ranks Robinson as the No. 183 prospect overall and No. 22 wide receiver.

2013 Football Recruiting: 4 Florida Gators Among New Rivals100

The latest version of the Rivals100 was released on Tuesday and the list contained four Florida Gators’ commitments. The four, in order, are linebacker Daniel McMillian, wide receiver Ahmad Fullwood, running back Kelvin Taylor and defensive back Nick Washington. Taylor was the newbie among the group while defensive tackle Caleb Brsntley fell out of the top 100.

McMillian leads the way at No. 66 with Fulwood not far behind him at No. 69. The two are widely regarded to be two of the Gators’ top commits although many residents of the state of Florida would argue the newest orange and blue member of the top 100 should be much higher up the list.

That would be Taylor, who is definitely one of the nation’s top running backs, but may be the best one depending on who you ask. Taylor makes his Rivals100 debut at No. 92. He’s followed be Washington at No. 99.

With the exception of Taylor, Gators fell this time around – McMillian 13 spots, Fulwood 10 and Washington five. Brsntley was No. 82 in the first list, but will now be a member of the Rivals250.

2013 Football Recruiting: Georgia Wide Receiver Marqui Hawkins Commits To Florida Gators

The Florida Gators continued their faster than usual pace through the 2013 football recruiting cycle. Historically an equal player throughout the entire cycle, Florida has slightly changed gears under head coach Will Muschamp who has brought with him a philosophy of filling the class early. On Monday, Columbus, GA (Carver) wide receiver Marqui Hawkins became the latest member of the 2013 class and the 16th total commitment for the Gators despite it only being May.

At 6’2″, 190 pounds, Hawkins has good size for a receiver, but has also been mentioned as a prospect at defensive back. Currently listed as a WR, Hawkins is rated No. 100 at his position by 247Sports and No. 42 by Rivals. He becomes the third wide receiver in the class thus far. Hawkins joins Rodney Adams and Ahmad Fulwood at a position desperately in need of depth. The Gators are looking for size at the position and all three currently fit that bill with each commitment being 6’1″ or taller.

Hawkins’ commitment to Florida was first reported by Andrew Spivey of Gator Country.

2013 Football Recruiting: Ahmad Fulwood, Tre Bell, Joshua Outlaw All Commit To Florida Gators

The Orange and Blue Debut can be about more than just the upcoming season’s team. It can be about the extended future of the Florida Gators. That was exactly the case this year as Will Muschamp and the Gators picked up commitments from wide receiver Ahmad Fulwood, defensive back Tre Bell, and offensive lineman Joshua Outlaw.

Not only did the Gators pick up three commitments, but they got players at positions of need and one in particular that has been a target for quite some time. Ahmad Fulwood is one of the nation’s top wide receivers and one Florida was hoping to bring to Gainesville. Muschamp and his coaching staff were able to do just that. Fulwood will be one of the key pieces of the 2013 recruiting class.

Joining Fulwood were two out-of-state prospects in Tre Bell and Joshua Outlaw. Bell comes to the Gators all the way from Jersey City, NJ, while Outlaw comes across the boarder from Lithonia, GA.

Florida continues its fast start to the 2013 class with no slowdown in sight.
