Designated hitter Brian Johnson powered the No. 1/5 Florida Gators to a victory on Tuesday night. The reigning SEC Player of the Week drove in five runs to lead the Gators to an 8-2 win over the Georgia Southern Eagles.
Johnson matched a career high with the five RBI and may have just put himself in a position to contend for back-to-back SEC honors. He went 2-for-5 on the night while hitting his seventh double and fifth homerun. Catcher Mike Zunino went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. The Gators other six runs were scored by six different players.
On the mound, starting pitcher Greg Larson only got through three innings, but it was enough to get the win to improve his record to 4-0 on the season. The Gators closed out the game using five different relief pitchers over the final six innings.
Florida improves to 29-8 with the victory and now has two days off before the weekend series against Georgia.
