2013 Football Recruiting: Georgia Wide Receiver Marqui Hawkins Commits To Florida Gators

The Florida Gators continued their faster than usual pace through the 2013 football recruiting cycle. Historically an equal player throughout the entire cycle, Florida has slightly changed gears under head coach Will Muschamp who has brought with him a philosophy of filling the class early. On Monday, Columbus, GA (Carver) wide receiver Marqui Hawkins became the latest member of the 2013 class and the 16th total commitment for the Gators despite it only being May.

At 6’2″, 190 pounds, Hawkins has good size for a receiver, but has also been mentioned as a prospect at defensive back. Currently listed as a WR, Hawkins is rated No. 100 at his position by 247Sports and No. 42 by Rivals. He becomes the third wide receiver in the class thus far. Hawkins joins Rodney Adams and Ahmad Fulwood at a position desperately in need of depth. The Gators are looking for size at the position and all three currently fit that bill with each commitment being 6’1″ or taller.

Hawkins’ commitment to Florida was first reported by Andrew Spivey of Gator Country.

2013 Football Recruiting: Quinton Powell Commits To Gators; Florida Adds 4-Star Linebacker

It’s the day that keeps on giving, or something like that. On Saturday afternoon, the Florida Gators added their third commitment of the day and first on the defensive side of the ball. Daytona Beach, FL (Mainland) linebacker Quinton Powell chose Florida over a handful of other offers.

Powell follows in the footsteps of Kelvin Taylor and Rodney Adams, both who committed earlier in the day. The 6’1″, 189-pound outside linebacker received four stars from both Rivals.com and 247Sports. 247 sports lists him as the No. 243 recruit overall and No. 17 OLB. He comes from the same high school that produced 2012 defensive end Leonard Williams. Williams, you may remember, signed with USC on National Signing Day over Florida. It also happens to be the school Vince Carter played at during his high school days.

Powell becomes the third linebacker in the Gators’ seven-man 2013 recruiting class. It’s definitely a position of need and Will Muschamp and staff seem to be filling that need nicely.

2013 Football Recruiting: Gators Add Rodney Adams; 4-Star Wide Receiver Commits To Florida

Blink and you might miss something. The Florida Gators continued their impressive and extremely early haul with the commitment of four-star wide receiver Rodney Adams. The 6’1″, 166-pound receiver out of St. Petersburg, FL (Lakewood) is the second to announce his intentions on becoming a Gator on Saturday after Kelvin Taylor did so earlier in the day.

Adams is a four-star receiver according to both 247Sports and Rivals.com and both services put him in the same ballpark when it comes to overall rankings. He is No. 234 according to Rivals and No. 240 according to 247. Rivals doesn’t have position rankings just yet, but 247 has Adams ranked as No. 31 in terms of wide receivers. Adams joins a class quickly climbing up the team rankings as well. After Taylor’s commitment on Saturday morning, the Gators were No. 4 on 247’s list, but Adams bumped them up to No. 3.

Adams will join former high school teammate Dante Fowler Jr. in Gainesville.
