Florida Gators Win Capital One Cup, Finish 2nd In Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup

Earlier this week, the Florida Gators received some pleasant news.* Florida won the men’s 2011-12 Capital One Cup and finished second in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings behind Stanford. The Cardinal have a stranglehold on the Learfield Cup having taken it home for 18 consecutive years now.

The Gator men put in a dominant performance of their own in winning the Capital One Cup. Florida took home the trophy with a 14-point lead over second place Arizona. The Gators were a full 22 points clear of third-place UCLA. The SEC as a whole had a good showing with five programs in the top eight.

The Learfield wasn’t as kind to the SEC despite Florida’s second-place finish. LSU was the next conference team, but came in at No. 13. The Pac-12 took home conference honors with four of the top eight.

Congratulations to the entire Florida athletics program for another great season.

*By pleasant we mean news that falls into the category of pure athletic domination, but that’s expected at this point.
